Garburn Trail Race

Next year's date : Sunday 4th June 2006

The Garburn Trail Race and Challenge is rapidly becoming one of the more memorable events in the walking and running calendar.

The point to point scenic 20km (12 miles) course along footpaths and bridleways, links Staveley and Windermere via the stunning Garburn Pass. The challenging route caters for walkers and non competitive runners (the Challenge), followed by nordic walkers, then the more competitive runners in the Trail Race.

Kit transfer and transport back to the start is provided after the prize giving. All finishers receive a specially designed event T shirt. Entertainments are laid on, such as the 70 piece samba drumming band Kookaburra All-Stars. The event supports local organisations Cumbria Wildlife Trust and St John's Ambulance.

Junior fun trails take place around the finish arena in Windermere, starting at 12.30. All the finishers of the junior fun trails win a medal.

The trail race attracts international athletes, and good cash prizes are on offer (£150 first man & woman 2005). The veteran classes also have great prizes, first three for all age groups.

The spot prize draw at the end of the prize giving is where all the finishers of the Garburn get the chance of winning one of 15 spot prizes donated by local businesses.

Information about the event, with slide show of the course, results, downloadable entry form etc, is available from the new website www.trailrunning.co.uk which also includes details of the other Lakeland Trails series.
